Zorro

Zorro, Spanish for fox, is the name used by a fictional character, a Mexican-era California masked hero and master swordsman of the Old West, whose real name is Don Diego de la Vega. (Don Diego Vega in the original story). He fights for the Californio people against the corrupt tyranny of the Spanish governor, proving himself to be much too foxlike and cunning for the bumbling authorities to catch.

• La Gran Aventura DEL ZORRO (1974) a Mexican Western of well written and well acted as well as directed design, close to the idea of the role by Guy Williams (see TV, below). It featured actress Helena Rojo, where Rodolfo de Anda played Don Diego and Rojo played his fiancé. Rojo is now a huge Telenovela Actress in Mexico, but always as a villain and not a heroine. Pedro Almendarez Jr played the villain in the tale, with it being set in a very primitive San Francisco Bay area.

• ' (1981), a parody, which starred George Hamilton. In The Gay Blade', Zorro breaks his leg just before he was to set out on an adventure, and sends his gay cousin, also a master swordsman, out in his stead.
• The Mask of Zorro (1998), an anti-Zorro playing against the tradition, starring Anthony Hopkins as Don Diego De La Vega and Antonio Banderas as Alejandro Murrieta, a misfit outlaw who is groomed to become the next Zorro.
• The Legend of Zorro (2005), also starring Banderas.
