Ziarah

Ziarah is an Islamic grave visiting tradition common throughout the countries where holy and sacred graves attract pilgrimage and calendrically appropriate visits.

In countries and regions where it is condoned and practised with fervour, the numbers of people on ziarah at relevant times of the calendar are extensive. Usually an annual event at the grave of a revered saint or ancestor, such visits occur

In countries where political or economic restrictions occur, some individuals conduct ziarah at specific sites for seven times, and this can be known as 'the poor man's haj' - that is visiting a venerated local grave of a special person as an alternative to the haj.
