Yvan Goll
Yvan Goll (March 29, 1891 – 1950) was a French-German poet who was perfectly bilingual and wrote in both French and German. He had close ties both to the German expressionism and to the French surrealism. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Due to his pacifism, he escaped to Switzerland to avoid conscription into the army at the outbreak of World War I (he was a German citizen). He wrote many war poems, the most famous being "Requiem for the Dead of Europe". ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
