Yuvraj is primarily a left-handed batsman but can bowl part-time left-arm spin. He can demolish pace bowling but his aggressive style of batting is often a cause of his demise against spin bowling. He is seen as part of the new brigade of young cricketers who can form the nucleus of the Indian team in the future. He is also a great asset in the field. But his successes were only limited against fast bowling, he has rarely been successful against the slow bowlers.

He is and will always be remembered for his great partnership with Mohammad Kaif in the Natwest Series final against England. He had scored some memorable half-centuries for India in ODIs but a hundred was due. It came as last as in his fourth season with the Indian team against Bangladesh. After that he also scored hundreds against Zimbabwe and Australia. In the Indian Oil Cup 2005, he made a brilliant 110 (of 114 balls) (his third century) and an important partnership worth 165 runs with Mohammad Kaif, to become the man of the match against West Indies in the last match of the round robin league.

His Test debut at his home ground Mohali, against the touring Kiwis was not a memorable one. But he soon made up with a century against Pakistan in his second Test at Lahore. He has many times been plagued by poor form. But the Indian captain, Sourav Ganguly, has always had confidence in his players, and so also with Yuvraj.
