Yourself or Someone Like You

Yourself or someone like you, the debut album by matchbox 20, released in 1996, contained five U.S. hit singles, and sold over twelve million copies in the U.S. alone. It also went multi-platinum in Canada and Australia. The band's rock-based sound appealed to many listeners, despite a depressing theme with songs on topics such as loneliness, domestic violence, humiliation, anger, and drunkeness. The band's next album, mad season, was widely regarded as being a step down in overall quality, which was reflected in the charts. more than you think you are, generally considered to be a much better album, also failed to sell even a third as many copies as the band's first.
