Young Man With a Horn is a fictional 1939 novel by Dorothy Baker that is based, although loosely, on the real life of jazz trumpet player Bix Beiderbecke.

The book was made into a movie in 1950 by Jerry Wald (producer) and Michael Curtiz (director), and Carl Foreman & Edmund H. North doing the screenplay. Kirk Douglas played the lead character, Rick Martin, based on Beiderbecke. The movie also starred Doris Day, Lauren Bacall, Hoagy Carmichael, and Juano Hernandez. Louis Armstrong makes an apperance as himself. Douglas's horn playing is in dubbed by Harry James.
