You Can Dance

You Can Dance is the first EP and fourth recording by singer Madonna, released in 1987 (see 1987 in music). The album contains remixes of tracks from her first three albums, the first 6 of which were segued together. After Janet Jackson's Control: The Remixes established the remix album as a separate piece of work in it's own right, "You Can Dance" went one further and made the concept commercially viable. Although it was her only album to fail to go top 10 in America, it sold well despite having no singles to promote it. In Japan, the album's one new song Spotlight was released as a single and made the top 10 in that country. In latter years, the popular opinion of the album has gradually decreased, with many music journals labelling it as musically disastrous and dated. Nonetheless, You Can Dance continued Madonna's string of platinum-selling albums.
