Yoga is a family of spiritual practices that developed on the Indian subcontinent, where it is seen primarily as a means to enlightenment (or bodhi). Traditionally, Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Jnana Yoga, and Raja Yoga are considered the four main yogas. In the West, yoga has become associated with the asanas (postures) of Hatha Yoga, which are popular as fitness exercises. (Hatha Yoga was originally a part of Raja Yoga.) Yoga as a means to enlightenment is central to Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism.
