Xanadu House
Xanadu was an architectural project started in the late 1970s, which eventually led to the construction of three differently designed homes, in Kissimmee, Florida; Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin; and Gatlinburg, Tennessee. All three Xanadu homes were built with polyurethane insulation foam rather than concrete, to make the home both easier to build and more cost-effective. The Xanadu houses were built as visitor attractions, to showcase how computers can be used in the home to carry out automated tasks. In the early 1990s two of the Xanadu homes were closed and demolished, leaving only the Kissimmee Xanadu left; the latter closed in 1996.
