W?rzburg is a city in the region of Franconia which lies in the northern tip of Bavaria, Germany. Located on the Main river, it is the capital of the Regierungsbezirk Unterfranken. The regional dialect spoken by people in W?rzburg is Franconian. X-rays were discovered at the University in this city in 1895.

W?rzburg is approximately 90 minutes train journey from Frankfurt and Stuttgart. Depending on the construction and Stau, it is a four hour drive from Frankfurt. It is also approximately 100km from N?rnberg, the site of the 1945 war crimes trials.

The city of W?rzburg is not included in W?rzburg (district), but is its administrative seat. Its population is about 158,000 as of 2000.
