WrestleMania III

WrestleMania III was the third pay-per-view in WWE's annual WrestleMania series. The event took place in the Pontiac Silverdome on March 29, 1987. It is particularly notable for being reported as setting an attendance record of 93,173, the largest North American indoor crowd to witness a live sporting event and largest paid crowd in the history of professional wrestling. It held the overall indoor attendance record until a visit by Pope John Paul II broke the record. The actual attendance of WrestleMania III is in dispute, as some sources later claimed attendance as being around 78,000. It is possible the confusion stems from paid attendance vs actual attendance, as typically some seats are given away and some critics may not feel as if people who did not pay to attend deserve to be counted.
