Worm

WORM means Write Once, Read Many. It is sometimes used when discussing computer storage media that can be written to once, but read from multiple times. Examples of such storage media are CD-R and DVD-R.

Paper has for centuries been a WORM storage medium avant la lettre (before the term existed).

WORM should not be confused with worm (not in capitals) (a self-replicating computer program, similar to a computer virus).

Computer storage: The terms "storage" refer to the parts of a digital computer that retain physical state (data) for some interval of time, possibly even after electrical power to the computer is turned off. "Storage" is generally used for the slower forms....

CD-R: A CD-R (Compact Disc-Recordable) is a thin (1.2 mm) disc made of polycarbonate with a 120 mm or 80 mm diameter that is mainly used to store music or data. However, unlike conventional CD media, a CD-R has a core of dye instead of metal....
