World Federation

World federation is the act of politically, economically, militarily, and/or culturally joining all of the world's nations into one superstate.

Some would argue that world federation would greatly decrease the risk of war. Also, if there were to a higher government more powerful than each of the national governments, then all nations could be forced to sign an environmental pact or agreement such as the Kyoto Accord.

Others would argue that this type of structure would eventually lead to governmental corruption, perhaps even tyranny. They also argue that the world government would have far too much power. Additionally, the size of the bureaucracy could be problematic as well, especially lacking efficiency and flexibility.

The European Union is currently debating EU constitutional changes that some would consider an attempt to form a superstate.
