Woonsocket is a city located in Providence County, Rhode Island. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 43,224.

Woonsocket is right on the Massachusetts border. In the 2000 census, 46.1% of the population identified itself as French or French-Canadian. It is one of the most heavily French-Canadian cities in New England. Historically, the city has been called, « La place de plus Française aux États-unis » (The most French city in America).
