Woodside is a center of Queens' Irish American community, and has a large number of Irish expatriates, but it is a very diverse neighborhood as well. There are many Asian American families, especially Korean and Chinese, as well as Indian, Bengali, Muslim and Hispanic groups. Some areas are widely residential and very quiet, while others are more urban.

Woodside is filled with Irish pubs, many catering to natives of particular cities and regions in Ireland.

Woodside provides easy access to the rest of the city, the 7 subway line makes stops at 52nd, 61st and 69th Streets on Roosevelt Avenue with a LIRR station at 61st. The Q18, Q32, Q39, Q45 and Q60 buses run throughout the neighborhood. Also, access is available through the G, R, and V trains at Northen Blvd. and 65th Street.

Woodside is also becoming a new settlement for urban gays and lesbians.

There is the B.Q.E and L.I.E in the area. The neighborhood has a lot of places of worship. The schools that serve Woodside are PS 11, PS 12, PS 151, PS 152, PS 229 AND IS 125. Bryant High School is the zone for the community. The parks in the area are Windmueller Park, Busch Park and Laurellhill Park. This neighborhood starts at 48th St. and ends at 72nd St. The south of the neighborhood is covered by cemeteries toward the Maspeth border, especially around 49th through 58th Streets.

During the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks, the town served as a primary gathering spot for mourning and media attention.
