Wong Ka Kui


 

Koma Wong Ka-Kui (Simplified Chinese: 黄家驹, Traditional Chinese: 黄家駒, Jyutping: Wong4 Ga1 Koy1, Pinyin: Huang2 Jia1 Ju1) (born June 10, 1962 in Hong Kong, passed away on June 30,1993) is a composer, songwriter and singer. He is also the lead singer, rhythm guitarist, and the founding member of the popular Hong Kong rock band, Beyond. When Ka-Kui was alive, he composed more than 90% of the songs for the band and quite a few award-winning lyrics. Ka-Kui is known for his unique and powerful voice that was able to convey a number of emotions, making him the heart and soul of Beyond. He was a tremendous idealist.

In 1990, Ka-Kui won the best lyrics award for the song 光輝歲月 (Glory Days).

While filming a gameshow in Japan on June 24,1993, Ka-Kui fell off a platform and was hospitalized. After the accident, thousands of Beyond fans prayed for Ka-Kui. Unfortunately, he passed away on June 30th, 1993 after spending a few days in a coma.
