~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The station began broadcasting in 1990 on the frequency of 1220 AM. For several years in the mid 1990s, WKNR was home to Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, and Ohio State football and basketball broadcasts. In 1998, Jacor Communications (then owner of WTAM 1100 AM) purchased WKNR and had the Indians and Browns rights transferred to 1100 AM. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ In 2001, after a massive trade/purchase shake up, WKNR switched frequencies to 850 AM. Today, WKNR still holds the rights to Ohio State sports, as well as being the Cleveland affiliate for ESPN Radio and The Jim Rome Show. It broadcasts ESPN Radio's Mike and Mike in the Morning during morning drive time, and features local sports talkers Greg Brinda weekday mornings and Kenny Roda in afternoon drive time. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
