WKMG, "Local6", known on air as Local 6, is a television station based in Orlando, Florida, affiliated with the CBS network. It is owned by the Washington Post Company. Its transmitter is located in Bithlo, Florida. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The station signed on the air in 1954 as WDBO-TV (for "Way Down By Orlando"), and was Central Florida's first television station. The station was almost sold to Columbia Pictures in 1982, and its call sign was prematurely changed to WCPX-TV (which remained with the station even though the deal did not materialize) on June 6 of that year. Upon its purchase by the Washington Post Company in 1997, the station changed its call sign to WKMG in honor of longtime Washington Post publisher, Katharine M. Graham. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
