Winfield Scott Hancock


 

Winfield Scott Hancock (February 14, 1824February 9, 1886) was a career U.S. Army officer who served with distinction as a general in the American Civil War and ran unsuccessfully for President of the United States in 1880. He was known to army colleagues as "Hancock the Superb".
