Windmills of the Gods is a 1987 novel by American thriller writer Sidney Sheldon.

Ashley, a professor at the University of Kansas. She is offered and Ambassadorship by the President of United States. She rejects the offer just because she feels that she's more happy as she is. Her husband too does not want her to be an ambassador, but soon he is murdered, and Ashley accepts the offer of the President just to fill the void in her life. She is assigned to be an ambassador for Romania, behind the Iron Curtain, where she finds everybody is conspiring against her.
