Winchell's Donuts

Winchell's Donuts is an international doughnut company founded by Verne Winchell on October 8, 1948 in Temple City, California. As of 2004, there are about 200 stores in 12 western states, as well as Guam, New Zealand, Saipan, and Saudi Arabia.

Donut Offerings

Winchell's offers over 70 varieties of "Warm 'n Fresh" donuts and bakery products.

Donuts of the raised variety which are made from a yeast-raised base. Raised donuts include glazed, maple, and chocolate rounds and twists as well as the "chocolate bar" which is basically a twist without the twisting. Jelly filled donuts are also of this variety.

There are also cake donuts, which are rich. They are made with a variety of aromatic spices such as cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg. The cake donuts come in plain cake and chocolate cake varieties and can be iced any number of ways and have any number of toppings.

There is also a cousin to the cake donut, the buttermilk donut. Denser than a raised donut and not as dense as the cake. This is a lumpy and ugly donut in appearance that is quite delicious.

All Winchell's donuts are created with top-grade fruit fillings and are made with bittersweet chocolate frosting and pure vegetable oil (no animal fats).

Other baked goods include croissants, cinnamon rolls, bagels, muffins and scones.

A large beverage selection is also offered at each location, which includes specially blended coffee made from a high grade of dark roasted Arabica beans. Hot and frozen cappuccino's, orange and apple juice, milk, tea and soda are also available.
