It is most notable as the busiest bus route in Europe, with at least five companies operating many routes. This is partly because it is the main route for students travelling between the residential area of Fallowfield, where many halls of residence are situated (among them Owens Park), and the main campuses of the University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University. Magicbus, UK North, Stagecoach, Finglands and R. Bullocks are among the competing bus companies.
