William Henry Cardinal Keeler
William Henry Cardinal Keeler (born March 4, 1931) has been the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Baltimore since 1989 and a Cardinal since 1994.

Born in San Antonio, Texas, he was studying at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome when he was ordained a priest there by Luigi Cardinal Traglia, then the Vicegerent of the Diocese of Rome but later Dean of the College of Cardinals. Ordained for the Diocese of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, he received a doctorate in canon law at the Pontifical Gregorian University and served as an expert at the Second Vatican Council.

He had risen to become Chancellor of the Diocese of Harrisburg and Prelate of Honor of His Holiness when he became an auxiliary bishop there in 1979, and was then named the Bishop of Harrisburg in 1983. Subsequent to his promotion to Baltimore he served a term (1992-1995) as President of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops (now United States Conference of Catholic Bishops). Keeler was also one of the cardinal electors who participated in the 2005 papal conclave that selected Pope Benedict XVI.
