"What a Girl Wants" is the second single from Christina Aguilera's debut album, Christina Aguilera. Released in 1999, the single peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 2 weeks, becoming Aguilera's 2nd #1 single. The single also peaked at #3 in the UK and at #5 in Australia. Often considered one of her signature songs, the single is most known for establishing Aguilera's placement in the music industry. With the success of her last single, "Genie in a Bottle", many critics had written her off as a fluke; with the success of "What a Girl Wants", Aguilera proved that she was no one-hit wonder.
