~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ WGN Television, like its sister radio station WGN-AM (720 kHz), is owned by the Tribune Company, which owns the Chicago Tribune newspaper whose slogan "World's Greatest Newspaper" was the basis for the call letters used by both stations.
