~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Weyoun is a Vorta, a race from the Gamma Quadrant who have been adapted into the Dominion hierarchy as administrators. Weyoun was a notable character in the history of Star Trek in that he was one of the only regular villains cast in a truly sympathetic light. Whereas characters such as Khan Noonien Singh and Gul Dukat were given some depth and realistic motives, Weyoun's "villainy" was, in the majority of his incarnations, almost always the result of otherwise admirable qualities such as his undying devotion and loyalty to the Founders. Although more than capable of carrying out ruthless realpolitik as the situation demanded to achieve his goals, he never really exhibited the "perverse personal satisfaction" in his actions that Dukat did. It was likely because of these qualities that the female changeling said of him that "he was the only solid I ever trusted". ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The fourth Weyoun (the first one we actually meet face-to-face) is killed by his Jem'Hadar First, after Weyoun questions the loyalty of the First and his men. Weyoun 5 appears in one episode later on, attempting to convince a Cardassian defector to return home and face trial. This version of Weyoun is later killed (offscreen) in a transporter accident - possibly intentionally caused by Damar. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Weyoun 6, regarded as an anomaly in the Vorta ranks, actually defected to the Federation, and chose to sacrifice his own life in an unexpectedly painful manner rather than allow himself to be re-captured. However, some later Weyouns were portrayed more shallowly, being stereotypically arrogant and, like Gul Dukat, seemed to waver erradically between misguided goodness and genuine evil. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Weyoun 7 was killed by Worf. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The last Weyoun clone, Weyoun 8, was killed by Elim Garak during the coup engineered by Garak and Kira Nerys. The possibility of Weyoun being resurrected is slim, due to victory of the United Federation of Planets and its allies over the Dominion. Even though genetic material may still exist to clone him again, the idea of another Weyoun may not be popular with the Cardassians or the Allies due to the nearly countless deaths that Weyoun was responsible for. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ A ninth Weyoun does appear in the novels of the Deep Space Nine relaunch. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Weyoun was played by actor Jeffrey Combs, who has said that Weyoun is his personal favorite out of all the Trek roles he has played. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
