In 2002, Williams caused controversy when interviewing Whitney Houston and asking blunt questions about Houston's drug habits. It was during Williams' interview that Houston admitted to having used marijuana recreationally "in the past". Williams also drew Houston's ire when she asked her point-blank if she had ever smoked crack. Houston's controversial reply was that she was rich and only poor people smoked crack; she then proceeded to tell Williams off.
