Wellington Hurricanes


 

The Wellington Hurricanes, officially known simply as the Hurricanes, are a New Zealand rugby union team based in Wellington, and representing the East Coast, Poverty Bay, Hawke's Bay, Taranaki, Wanganui, Manawatu, Wairarapa-Bush, Horowhenua-Kapiti and Wellington unions. They compete in the Super 14 competition (Super 12 from 1996-2005), where their best result has been 3rd place in 1997 and 2003.

Since 2003, the Hurricanes have been captained by Tana Umaga, who has recently also become the captain of New Zealand's national team, the All Blacks.

The Wellington Hurricanes have had such great players as Jonah Lomu and Christian Cullen representing for many years as well as up and coming stars, Maa Nonu and Conrad Smith, playing for the present team. And of course the legendary hard man of Rugby Football Union - Jerry Collins.
