We Belong Together
"We Belong Together" is a song by American singer-songwriter Mariah Carey, and is the second single from her fourteenth album, The Emancipation of Mimi. Released in 2005 (see 2005 in music), the single became Carey's sixteenth number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100; it also peaked at number two in the U.K. The song has earned a reputation for being Carey's comeback single as it helped her to regain public popularity after her reputation and music had been denounced in the years following the release–and subsequent failure–of her albums Glitter (2001) and Charmbracelet (2002) and their accompanying singles. The song became Carey's first number-one single in five years, and has broken numerous chart records; its strong radio airplay enabled it to become the first song to cross the 200 million audience impression barrier, and it was named the world's most played song of the year by the World Music Awards.
