Wayne Rogers


 

Wayne Rogers (born in Birmingham, Alabama on 7 April 1933) is an American film and television actor, best known for playing the role of 'Trapper John' McIntyre in the long-running U.S. television series, M*A*S*H. The show started in 1972 and he left it in 1975, after the third season. It is said he left because his character had no devolopment whatsoever, this including disputes about his contract. He succeeded the role from Elliot Gould in the movie and he was succeeded by Pernell Roberts on the TV M*A*S*H, short-lived spin-off Trapper John, M.D.

Rogers graduated from Princeton University with a history degree in 1954 and served in the Navy before becoming an actor. He is a graduate of the Webb School in Bell Buckle, Tennessee.

He is currently married to Amy Hirsh, whom he married in 1988. In 1979, he divorced his first wife, whom he married in 1960 and had two children with.
