Wayne Dyer was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 10 1940. Dyer's early life was spent living in foster homes and orphanages where he had to learn to be self reliant. This somewhat troubled upbringing influenced Dyer's choices later in life. As a young man he joined the Navy and served for four years, then upon leaving he started studying at Wayne State University, Detroit at the age of 22.
