Vessels using waterways vary from small animal-drawn barges to immense ocean tankers and ocean liners, such as cruise ships. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ At one time, canals were built mostly for small wooden barges drawn by horses or other draft animals.
