War for the Oaks

A subgenre-defining urban fantasy novel by Emma Bull, War for the Oaks (1987) is the story of Eddi McCandry, ex-member of the rock band InKline Plain. Walking home one night through the streets of Minneapolis, she discovers that she is being pursued by a phouka, who drafts her into the battle between Faerie's Seelie Court and Unseelie Court, but who also has an agenda of his own. Struggling for survival with the Unseelie Court determined to destroy her, Eddi will find that keeping a gig at the University Bar is easy in comparison.
