Voyage in the Dark
Voyage in the Dark is a 1934 novel, by Jean Rhys. It tells the semi-tragic descent of its protagonist Anna Morgan from lower-class London society to its very pits. Controversial for featuring a bad illegal abortion, the ending was edited before publication so that Anna survives as the light enters into her room from under the door. The novel is rich in Caribbean folklore and tradition and black self-identification by its white protagonist.
