Suzdal and Murom are the two most ancient and rich in historical monumenets towns in Vladimir Oblast. The 12th-century cathedrals of Vladimir, Suzdal, and Bogolyubovo are inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The town of Alexandrov contains the most important of Ivan the Terrible's residences. Pre-Petrine architecture is well represented in Yuriev-Polsky, Kirzhach, Vyazniki, and Gorokhovets.
