VidFIRE
VidFIRE, short for Video Field Interpolation Restoration Effect, is a restoration technique developed by Dr. Peter Finklestone. The basic idea behind VidFIRE is to restore the video-look to footage that was originally shot on videotape but now exists only as a telerecording.

Early in its development, the process was known jokingly as Video Field Artificial Restoration Technique—or VidFART.

The process is used extensively by the Doctor Who Restoration Team on the Doctor Who DVDs. It has also been used on DVD releases of Dad's Army and Sykes.

In 2005, a new and improved version of VidFIRE debuted on the DVD release of Quatermass. This new VidFIRE uses an improved motion estimation engine, which retains full detail on estimated frames. Previous versions of VidFIRE used slightly softer estimated frames.
