Veruca Salt is a character in Roald Dahl's book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and its subsequent film adaptations. She is played by Julie Dawn Cole in the 1971 movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and Julia Winter in the 2005 movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In both books and movies, Veruca is the only daughter of a wealthy couple, and a spoiled brat. Her parents treat her like a princess and let her have anything she wants no matter the expense or how outrageous it may be.

Her nationality is not mentioned in the book but in both films she is portrayed as an English girl. Her father, who is in the nut business, had every one of his factory workers open Wonka Bars until they could find a golden ticket for Veruca, making her the second winner. Being a spoiled child, she refuses to take no for an answer, and will go to any measure to getting what her heart desires. In the end, being spoiled is Veruca's downfall—literally.

Veruca is often regarded by fans of all three versions of the story as the "biggest brat", and because of this she is also one of the most popular characters from the story. Oddly she is also the only bad child in the story whose parents also get punished and who is suggested to be not entirely to blame for how bad she is. While she gets her comeuppance for being a spoiled brat, her parents are also punished for spoiling her in the first place.

Veruca naturally represents greed of the Seven Deadly Sins. The other three wicked children in the story represent three of the other seven.
