The team was considering a name change for the 2005 season, as its major-league parent, the Montreal Expos, had moved to Washington D.C. and became the Washington Nationals. However, because Minor League Baseball only gives clubs 60 days after the end of the season to change names and logos, the club did not have enough time for a name change, due to the fact the move to Washington took longer than expected to become official. Prior to the start of the New York-Penn League's 2005 season, the parent club, the Washington Nationals, gave the Vermont Expos a one year stay of execution. Following which, all things "Expos" will have to be erased.

The Expos held a contest to find a new name and identity for the team for the 2006 season. They were looking for something unique, to reflect Vermont, as opposed to the Nationals, in case they are no longer affiliated with them after 2006. At the end of the contest, they received between 25000 and 30000 entries. The new name, and logo will be unveiled next month.
