Vence is a small French town set in the hills of the Alpes Maritimes region, between Nice and Antibes. The citizens of Vence proffesion's usually are artists, sculptors or painters. The town has a population of 2903.

D H Lawrence died here in March 1930.His remains were later exhumed and taken to a ranch in New Mexico.

There is a small chapel, Chapelle du Saint-Marie du Rosaire (1948, completed in 1951), decorated with stained glass and other fittings by Henri Matisse.
