Vanya on 42nd Street was a 1994 film by Louis Malle and Andre Gregory, based on the play Uncle Vanya by Anton Chekhov. It starred Wallace Shawn in the title role.

For years, Andre Gregory had worked with a group of actors who came together on a voluntary basis to try to truly understand Chekhov's play. Their performances were for an invited audience only and were free from any commercial demands. Gregory and Malle decided to document the play as the group of actors had developed it, and the film was the result of this collaborative process.
