Vanuatu was recently mentioned in Michael Crichton's 2004 novel State of Fear. In this novel the nation of Vanuatu tries to file a lawsuit in the United States against the EPA for global warming which hurt the island by reducing their shores. In the end the lawsuit was never filed. Michael Crichton claims that the intention for the lawsuit is real, however the reasoning for why it was not filed, is fictional.
