Vampirella

Vampirella is a comic book vampire heroine from the planet Drakulon created by Forrest J. Ackerman and fleshed-out by Archie Goodwin.

The Story So Far

The story of Vampirella is clearly demarcated into two - first, under Warren Publishing (1969 - 1983) and later under Harris Comics (1991 - present).

Vampirella was an inhabitant of the planet Drakulon, a world where people lived on blood and where blood flowed like water in rivers. Drakulon orbited round twin suns, Satyr and Circe. Satyr erupts at irregular intervals destroying all life on the planet - as the explosion wanes, a new civilisation begins.

The race of which Vampirella is born, the Vampiri, are able to transform themselves into bats at will, sprout wings when required, and drink blood. The story begins with the inhabitants of Drakulon being destroyed slowly, but inevitably by Satyr's latest eruption.

The last few lay dying, when a spaceship from earth crashed on Drakulon. Vampirella, sent to investigate, was attacked as she had transformed. She retaliates and discovers that they had blood in their veins. In order for her race to survive, she manages to pilot the ship back to Earth where her adventures began. Vampirella became a "good" vampire, and devoted her energy to ridding our world of the homegrown "evil" kind. She continued her crusade until 1983, when Warren left the publishing business.
