Vamp
VAMP - vesicle-associated membrane protein or synaptobrevin is a small integral membrane protein of secretory vesicle. Its molecular weight is approximately 18 kilodalton (kDa). In mammals, three VAMP isoforms have been described. VAMP-1 and -2 are brain-specific proteins whereas the third isoform, cellubrevin, is expressed ubiquitously.

VAMP is one of the SNARE proteins involved in formation of the SNARE complexes. Out of four helices of a SNARE complex one is contributed by VAMP.

SNARE proteins are believed to be the key components of the molecular machinery that drives fusion of membranes in e.g. exocytosis.

Due to the fact that all proteins belonging to VAMP/Synaptobrevin family share common structural feature, they have been classified as R-SNAREs. An alternative classification (v- and t-SNAREs) exists that takes into account origin of VAMP-bearing organelle rather than their structural properties
