In order to represent Symbolism as a movement of formidable following, Bryusov adopted numerous pen-names and published three volumes of his own verse entitled Russian Symbolists. Anthology in 1894 and 1895. As a consequence, he came to be revered by later Symbolists as their peer and ultimate authority in matters of art. His own poetry, however, appeared cold and strained by the 1910s and his reputation gradually declined. In his later poems, Bryusov celebrated sensual pleasures and mastered a wide range of poetic forms, from acrostic to carmina figurata.
