A vagrant is a person, almost always poor, without a home or regular work. Urban vagrants are commonly called "street people". Some towns have shelters for vagrants.

Older terms for vagrants are tramp (or in the USA, bum). Such designations, however, tend to be associated with itinerant male rural vagrants of the past, rather than the modern pattern of the urban homeless of either sex.
