USS Augusta (CA-31)
USS Augusta (CA-31) (originally CL-31) was a Northampton-class heavy cruiser of the United States Navy, notable for service in the Atlantic and Mediterranean during World War II, and for her occasional use as a presidential flagship carrying both Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry S. Truman under wartime conditions. The fourth Navy ship of that name, there is some contention regarding which city — Augusta, Ga. or Augusta, Me. — is the ship's namesake. According to "The Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships", it is named after the city in Georgia, and was sponsored by Miss Evelyn McDaniel of Augusta, GA.
