USA Network

The USA Network is a popular cable TV network based in the United States with about 89 million household subscribers as of 2005. The network shows a variety of original and second-run programming, from syndicated TV series to edited movies. USA also shows some sports coverage, such as select golf and tennis tournaments, as well as the annual Westminster Kennel Club dog show. In addition, they broadcasted portions of the 2004 Olympic Games with many other NBC Universal basic cable channels. Previously, it had a weekly boxing show named USA Tuesday Night Fights, which ran for 17 years. USA was also the home of the WWE (then called WWF) flagship TV show RAW (also called Monday Night Raw, Raw is War and War Zone) from its inception in 1993 until September of 2000. On October 3rd 2005, WWE RAW returned to USA after WWE's acrimonious split with Spike TV (owned by Viacom) over contractual matters. Once a minor player in basic cable, the network has steadily been gaining popularity recently, thanks in part to breakout hits like the detective series Monk, the revamped Kojak, and the sci-fi mini-series turned regular series The 4400, whose series premiere in June 2005 gave USA its highest ratings ever, with 5.3 million viewers. Reruns of ' and ' are also frequently shown and are very popular on the network.
