University of Santo Tomas

The Royal and Pontifical University of Santo Tomas is a private Catholic university run by the Order of Preachers. It is one of the world's largest Catholic universities in terms of population. It was established in April 28, 1611, and claims to be the oldest existing university in the Philippines and in Asia. This is disputed by the University of San Carlos in Cebu, Philippines, which was founded in 1595 but became a university only in 1948.
