University of Rochester
Located in Rochester, New York, USA and founded in 1850, the University of Rochester is a private, coeducational and nonsectarian research institution. A member of the Association of American Universities, Rochester offers degree programs at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels, as well as in several professional disciplines. The University's current president is Joel Seligman, who replaced Thomas H. Jackson as the University's 10th president on July 1, 2005.
History
The University of Rochester was founded in 1850 as a Baptist-sponsored institution. Major growth occurred under the leadership of the third president, Rush Rhees. During his tenure, George Eastman became a major donor and the River Campus was established. The first Ph.D. was awarded in 1925.
