University of Portland


 

The University of Portland (UP) is a private Catholic university specifically affiliated with the Congregation of Holy Cross; like its better known sister school, the University of Notre Dame. UP is located in Portland, Oregon in the North Portland and St. Johns neighborhoods. Founded in 1901, UP has a student body of about 3,000 students. The UP mascot is the Pilot.

Sports

UP is perhaps best known for its outstanding NCAA soccer programs, especially the women's team, which won the national championship in 2002 and has produced national soccer stars and Olympians including Shannon MacMillan and Tiffany Milbrett.

Other intercollegiate sports at UP include basketball, baseball, volleyball, track, cross country, tennis, and golf. UP also had a football program that was disbanded.
